Dr Alex Ramadan
Alex has an MSc in Chemistry, an MRes in Plastic Electronics, and a PhD in Physics all from Imperial College London. Following this she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. In 2017 she was a Fulbright Scholar studying highly crystalline organic solar cells at Princeton University.
Alex joined Sheffield as a Lecturer in 2022. Her research is focussed on understanding the surfaces and interfaces of optoelectronic devices and how this relates to their physical and electronic properties.
She is interested in developing technologies which can help to tackle climate change with a particular focus on energy generation (through solar photovoltaics) and reducing energy consumption (more efficient light emitting diodes).
Alex’s research examines the link between the electronic structure of semiconductors and how this informs their photophysical properties. Her research is broad and interdisciplinary, covering the chemistry, physics, and materials science of the new and emerging semiconductors she studies.
Alongside her research Alex is passionate about improving research culture and making physics a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive research field.
